JXN Cloud is an online church focused on creating community.

JXN Cloud was launched mid 2020 by 1208 Greenwood Free Methodist Church, located in the Flat Iron District of Jackson, MI. In previous years 1208 hadn’t ventured too far into online church concepts since many online methods often lack community and promote consumeristic thinking. But then came coronavirus. Many churches were forced online overnight and it quickly became clear that they wouldn’t be reopening any time soon. And even as some began to reopen, they noticed that they wouldn’t be returning to full capacity for a long time. Some congregants would be too at risk to attend until a vaccine was created. On top of that, it seemed unlikely that new people would try to find a church in the midst of a global pandemic. A new way of doing church wasn’t just needed—it was forced upon us. And so JXN Cloud became a part of 1208’s mission to plant new churches that reach different audiences. JXN Cloud wasn’t founded to be trendy or cool, but to fit a context.

In 2018, 1208 Greenwood planted Dinner Church, which serves many homeless and impoverished people in the community. In 2019 they planted Nerd Church which reaches out to the Comic-Con community. And while they thought coronavirus would keep them from launching anything new for awhile, it actually necessitated the creation of JXN Cloud.

Like 1208’s other models of church, their online model doesn’t quite match what you see in other churches. That’s because everything we do at JXN Cloud aims to create an authentic online church community. Online churches often become all about education (which we are all for and also provide), but we believe that without a focus on community, the church will turn further inward than it already has. So in attempts to generate further conversation among Cloudies, we replaced talking heads with co-hosts and present our services as a morning show instead of a traditional music-and-a-message service.
